Editing Blog

  • Today was the day that we were going to edit. Sadly and unfortunately the computers were down and we’re not working. Our computers are very old so they have problems. We have been asking administration to get us new computers but they are not listening. All the computers are very slow and that makes it very hard to do work in class. Sometimes the computers will not connect to the Wi-Fi so we do not have Internet access during class either.These problems are making the completion of my commercial area. Now Pinnacle studios is not working.It was a problem with the editing and some of my clubs were not even save correctly. Some of the work out I will have to redo because It did not save correctly. she told us to save everything in Google Drive and hopefully the computers will start working soon so we can edit our commercials. This process has been annoying and frustrating. I wish that the computers would work because I have made good progress in my commercial. It sucks because as a student I wish I could do more to help the computers to start working again. But the school doesn’t have the type of money to supply for new equipment. Honestly a good idea would be to have a fundraiser to help support for the computers. It should be a nonprofit so I can only benefit the school. Honestly I know students that would donate and then hopefully help this cause.But at the same time I feel as if he will be lazy and not actually pay or if they cannot afford it. If this fundraiser actually worked this could benefit the future of our future students. The newer and better the computers the longer they can last. I feel like if we bought cheap computers they would not work that well. We would need to buy expensive computers because usually the more expensive the better they will be. Sometimes this is a problem because things can be overpriced. I talk to my dad (Mr Lenard) about the situation he would try to do something about it. Hopefully this issue can get resolved and we can start editing soon. We really need to finish our commercials without wasting time.

Filming blog

      I was absent the first day of filming so I had to make it up the second day of filming. I had someone film me since I was in a group by myself. I wore a FSU Nike jacket, FSU shirt and Nike Air Max sneakers. When I got to class I had to fill out a filming pass. Then I had to gather all of the equipment I needed. Then I made a plan for what needed to be filmed. The filming ended up turning out well. It was good weather on Monday so I did not have to scrap my idea. My commercial has no dialogue so I will have music in the background.
     The area that I filmed my whole commercial was the track. There were 5 different scenes. The first scene was a close up of me putting on the shoes on the track. I did this to set the tone for what the commercial will be about. The next scene was an extreme close up of me sitting on the floors with the Nike shoes on. This helped clearly helped show that it was a Nike commercial. The next scene was an establishing shot of me stretching. This was was because I was getting ready to take off like I am running a race. The next scene was a tracking shot of me taking off running down the track. I did this to show action since movement and athletics are often in Nike commercials.
      The lighting was bright light since the sun was out. I had a few retakes in scenes because I was messing my parts up but overall it was well. The tripod was not needed due to the way my scenes were. I was able to review the clips and check for mistakes.I really enjoyed the film making process besides that it was very hot. I can't wait to start editing.

Story board blog

Today in class we did our story boards for our commercials. It is a commercial with physical activity there will be a lot of close ups and this will will help focus on the Nike symbol. When editing I will try to emphasize that it is a Nike Commercial. my commercial will begin with a man putting on Nike shoes and it will be zoomed in on the lower part of his body. Next there will be an extreme close up to show the type of shoes they are. Then there will be a wide shot of the man stretching with the bleachers in the background. Lastly there will be a tracking shot of the man taking off down the track. To end the commercial the iconic Nike just do it and the Nike swoosh will load in on a black screen.

Editing Blog

Today in class we learned a lot. We learned how to check out cameras how to use the camera and how to edit our footage. First to check out cameras you have to fill out a sheet of paper and bring it to the teachers desk to inform her that you are taking the camera. I’ll write down the number of the camera on the sheet. When filming we need to get a filming pass so that we are not in trouble while filming around campus. These passes are important so that the teacher knows who is outside of the  class in  case of an emergency. Each group is only permitted to check out one camera at a time. These cameras are very expensive and will cost a lot to repair.

When working with cameras we must always be careful. We must make sure that all the parts are handled with care. The camera and all the extra pieces will be in a separate bag to ensure that they are secure. The first thing they said is the tripod. It has three legs that helps keep a stand. There is an important lever that helps lower and raise the camera. when everything is safe and secure and locked on the tripod you can begin filming. You can each adjust the tripod to take different types of shots. for example, tilt, pan, and other types of shots from the tripod. The polls and the tripod must be fully contracted in. Lastly, there is an SD card that goes in and out of the small slot in the camera and saves all of the film recorded. 


After filming has come to an end you can begin editing. First you must transfer all the clips from your camera and put it onto the desktop. This process is called dumping when you move everything from the SD card to the computer. The program we use to edit is called pinnacle Studios. when importing the film it is called the raw footage which means it has not been edited at all.  there are three layers in this. They are called titles, film, and music. This system can be slow but it is very effective to edit. When the edited film is completed and needs to be exported this is known as rendering. once it is rendered it is ready to be able to be shown to the public.

Research Blog

Media codes and conventions are like the building blocks of all media around us. Media codes generally have an agreed meeting or connotation to their audience. There are three types of media codes: symbolic codes technical code and written codes. Conventions are expecting ways in which codes are organized in a product. I am doing a Nike commercial.  in these commercials, the audience usually sees people taking part in sports, running, etc.

Popular costumes are different types of sport shoes such as basketball shoes, or tennis shoes, shorts shirts, tights, sports bras, sports pants. Common props are Nike footballs, water bottles, Nike headbands, Nike socks and many more. The appearance is usually someone who looks like they work out or are doing a physical activity. Often times the person in the commercial is sweating and that help emphasize the activity they’re doing. The score through a Nike commercial is usually fast paced sounds to keep the audience on the edge of their seat and to make you feel active. 


There are many types of conventions and codes and Nike commercials. For example the Nike swoosh in the just do it slogan are very popular and convincing to an audience. In Nike commercials props are always angled to show that it is a Nike commercial. This symbol is very popular so people know that is a Nike commercial. These commercials often show famous athletes, actors, and  celebrities to show that Nike is the best product to wear. Also, this helps persuade people to buy Nike products.

3. Schedule

First I will  research the conventions and codes of a Nike Commerical. Next, will  the planning begin with the props, costumes, location etc. Then, story board will be made with 6 slides of 5 seconds each. After that the filming will begin around campus. Lastly, the edits will be made for the 25-30 second commercial.

4.Location
The commercial is planned to be filmed on the track.

I will be filmed getting ready to run, first drinking water, then tying my shoes up and lastly winning the race. (all nike accessories will be used to achieve this)

5. Backup Plan
If the weather is not good then probably film me running down the hallway trying to give the same effect that I am racing, or I will think of completely new concept for the commercial if the weather is not good.



Intro Blog

        Hello I am Bori. I attend fort Lauderdale high school and I am in the 11th grade. As a person I Would say that I am easy going. For example, I always seem to go with the flow and never usually have any problems with anyone. Also, I am very sociable. I always seem to talk a lot and I can sometimes get annoying. Lastly,  I would say I am very competitive I play baseball and football. In everything I do I always feel as if I need to win in what I am doing.

      Here are some of my likes and dislikes. I like many of things. Some things I like the most are video games, sports and working out. I love sports because I feel like I was born to play baseball and football. Ever since a young age I fell in love with this sports. Also, I like working out because I like feeling healthy and I know if I am healthy I will feel better. Some dislikes I have are rude people, drama and dishonesty. All of these things really bother me and I feel that these things can be avoided if these types of people had decency and respect for themselves.

     Lastly, here are the classes I take. My first period is AICE Global perspectives we talk about the different points of view around the world to solve issues around the world. My third period is Spanish 3 honors. My fourth period is AP English. My fifth period is AICE Media Studies in which we break down different parts of film. My sixth period is Physics. Next, my seventh period is Pre Calc. Lastly, I take AICE US History in 8th period.
